Mr.Linky Blog Hop Favorite recipe

This isn't a favorite recipe per say. However it is a great recipe for pickles that are so Delicious and yummy to munch on through out the summer and for however long they last. This is another tried and true recipe from my German Grandmother. She has long passed away but I was fortunate enough to have been given all her recipe books, tablets, recipe cards etc. She loved cooking and homemaking. I have enjoyed these recipe books, cards, and tablets that she scribbled a recipe down quickly on. They are a very treasured assets in my kitchen !

Here is the recipe for DILL PICKLES

Makes 2 qts

  • 9 cups of water

  • 2/3 cup salt

  • 1 cup of vinegar

  • 1 tsp alum

  • add these spices to taste:

  • dill

  • celery salt

  • garlic powder

  • onion powder

Bring all liquid mixture to a boil in a large pot. Let cool .

  • You can add bell pepper rings, onion rings to the jars as well if you choose. Also chunks of garlic are good added too ! If you add the extra garlic chopped/minced eliminate the garlic powder or it will be way to garlicky !
  • Mix all together and add your pickling cucumbers to jars, pour seasoned water mixture into the jars, fill just over the top of the cucumbers. Let set. Refridgerate. Or if you like to can, use canning jars and can the cucumbers. They keep longer. Refridgerate the pickles for 2 weeks.

  • . Just make sure to follow the canning jar directions for canning pickles.
