Mr.linky recipe blog hop- Hawaiian meat balls

Hawaiian Meat Balls

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef

  • 2/3 cup cracker crumbs

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion

  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk

  • 1 tsp seasoned salt

  • 1/3 cup flour

  • 3 Tbls shortening

Combine first 5 ingredients, mix lightly but throughly. Roll into 60 balls. Roll in flour, brown in shortening. pour sweet-sour sauce over balls. Simmer covered 15 minutes. Serves 6.

Balls can be baked instead of fried. Bake them at 425* for 20 minutes.

Sweet-sour sauce:

  • 1 can (13 1/2 oz) pineapple chunks

  • 2 Tbls cornstarch

  • 1/2 cup vinegar

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 2 Tbls Soy sauce

  • 2 Tbls lemon juice

  • 1 cup green pepper cut into 1/2" squares

  • 1 Tbls chopped pimiento

Drain pineapple, measure syrup, add water to make 1 cup liquid. Blend into cornstarch. Add next 4 ingredients . cook until thick and clear. Add pineapple, bell pepper, and piniento. Simmer over low heat for 15 minutes.

  3. Ok, all the food on your blog is making me hungry, but the Hawaiian meatballs are breaking me! The secretary in Jere's office at the Pentagon is from Guam, and she makes her own version of Hawaiian meatballs that you serve over white rice. Last time Jere was up there, she froze two containers and he flew home with them in his suitcase!

    Food blogs are great places for a pregnant woman to get ideas for cravings. :-) And have I mentioned lately how grown up your kids are looking? Holy cow.
